My name is Max, and I am a PhD candidate with a background from Maastricht University, where I completed both my bachelor and research master in cognitive neuroscience. My research investigates how non-invasive brain stimulation can influence memory accessibility, particularly in the context of sleep deprivation. While I initially explored the behavioural effects of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) on memory, I became increasingly interested in the underlying neurophysiology — specifically, how tACS modulates cortico-hippocampal network connectivity. In my PhD, I now investigate whether inaccessible memories can be recovered and made retrievable again using various forms of non-invasive stimulation, such as tACS, TMS, or a combination of both. In the long run, we aim to make these memories accessible for longer periods of time by combining transcranial stimulation with pharmacological approaches like PDE4 inhibitors.
